As Christians, we often meet people who struggle with issues that make their lives miserable. We want so much to help, but we are not sure if we are qualified to help or know what advice to give. As we watch their lives spiral out of control, our hearts ache as they fall deeper and deeper into despair.

For this reason, Selah Mountain Ministries offers a nineteen-week Introduction to Biblical Counseling Course; to give Christians introductory level Biblical training that can be used to help those who desperately need it. This page provides specific information about this course as well as an overview of our Biblical counseling and training ministry.

Course Description

The Introduction to Biblical Counseling Course , the first of a series, is a foundational course that teaches the fundamentals of Biblical discipleship and counseling. It is designed to equip any born-again believer with the Biblical training, skills, and knowledge necessary to minister to those who need help with life issues.

Students will gain an understanding of what is meant by the term Biblical counseling and how it differs from psychological and spiritual counseling models. They will become familiar with the essential elements of the discipleship and counseling process, the role of the Holy Spirit, and the sufficiency of Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16-17) to minister to others in formal and informal settings. This course includes over 36 hours (about 2 semester hours) of Biblical counseling classes broken down into four major areas: counseling foundations; counseling theology; counseling practice; and counseling specialty. Additional learning opportunities will be provided through weekly homework assignments. Upon completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of training for this level.

Target Audience and Materials

This course is open to pastors, missionaries, teachers, Christian workers, and anyone else that has a desire to bear one another’s burdens by providing Biblical counseling and discipleship to others (2 Timothy 2:1-2; Galatians 6:2).

Students will also be required to provide their own King James Bible for use as the course textbook along with any other Bible study tools they desire such as a concordance, notebooks, etc. Course workbooks will be provided.

Why Do We Provide Training?

We provide Christian education and training because we care about you and want you to realize that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. God demonstrated His love for you, and us, in that while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8), He gave his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross to pay for our sins (John 3:16). This is because our sins, the breaking of God’s law (1 John 3:4), have a penalty that must be paid, and that penalty is death (Romans 6:23) in Hell. Jesus, because He never sinned (1 Peter 2:21-22), did not have to pay the penalty, but He willingly offered to pay for our penalty by dying on the cross. When He died, He descended into Hell, and rose again to everlasting life three days later (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). When we believe and trust that His death paid our penalty, God saves us from perishing in Hell, and we have everlasting life with God (John 3:36). If this is the first time you have ever heard this good news (gospel) we would like to show you from the Bible this truth about this gift of salvation from Jesus Christ.

Finally, we provide this Christian education and training to equip born again believers with the tools and skills necessary to minister to a hurting world and to share the gospel or good news of Jesus Christ with others. Please contact us if you have questions or you have decided to receive God’s “free gift” of salvation through Jesus Christ. May God bless you as you seek His will and plan for your life.
