Selah Mountain Baptist Church is not your typical church. We are a family of believers in Jesus Christ who desire to honor God by applying His wisdom through Biblical instruction in all areas of life and ministry. That being said, we believe that this is best accomplished by inspiring and encouraging each other to become more like Jesus in our relationships; not intimidating each other to adopt some legalistic form of religion that causes division. Likewise, our focus is not how many seats we can fill on Sunday, but instead focusing on how many lives we can positively impact throughout the whole week.

Technically speaking, we are an independent, free-standing, disciple-making, Bible-teaching, fundamental local church that is not part of any organized denomination or association. We strive to see the world, our purpose, and our mission through the lens of a Biblical world view. This means we are firm believers in letting the Bible explain itself, so as to learn from the Bible the fundamentals of what it really teaches, not what some church leader or cultural icon privately interprets it to teach. We accomplish this by preaching and teaching from all parts of the Bible (KJV) with a focus on helping everyone to become Biblically literate. In other words, we preach and teach it all and let God sort it out.

Finally, we would like you to know that God has an incredible plan for you and our church truly cares about helping you to to fulfill your role as part of His plan. You will find more than friendly faces; you'll find people who are sincerely interested in helping strengthen each other's walk with the Lord. Our passion for discipleship, our love for the Word of God, and our commitment to take the gospel to the entire world in order to fulfill the great commission will encourage you to daily participate as a co-laborer together with Christ.

If you are looking for a church home, you should seriously consider Selah Mountain Baptist Church.

What is
Selah Mountain?

Selah is a term that can be found mostly in the Psalms and a few other places in the Bible. The name Selah first shows up as a reference in 2 Kings 14:7 to the high mountain fortress capital city of Edom known as Selah. The name means rock, fortress, or stronghold. The city was captured and its name was changed to Joktheel, meaning veneration of God, by Judah's King Amaziah in acknowledgment of God's help in taking the fortress.

Selah is most commonly used in the Psalms. It is a term that means to pause or suspend, as in to stop doing something. Since the Psalms were actually songs, it is referred to as a place where there is a pause in the music for a moment to think about the magnitude of what was sung.

With these concepts in mind, Selah Mountain is a reference to stopping for a moment and thinking upon the magnitude of the rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ. When we read the Scriptures and take time to pause and meditate upon Jesus as our unshakable rock, He guards our hearts and minds and gives us peace beyond all understanding.
